A regra áurea ou ética da reciprocidade é a denominação dada ao preceito de moral evangélica do amor ao próximo como a nós mesmos e de que não devemos fazer aos outros o que não gostaríamos que nos fosse feito (ou outros equivalentes). Na tradição judaica aparece em  Levítico 19.18; em Tobias 4:16 e no Talmude com Hillel. Foi a resposta dada por ele a um pagão que o procurou dizendo: — “Faça-me um prosélito desde que você me ensine toda a Lei enquanto eu fico num pé só.” Então Hillel lhe disse: — “Não faças aos outros aquilo que não gostarias que te fizessem a ti. Essa é toda a Torá (Lei), o resto é explanação; agora ide e aprendei.” (On another occasion it happened that a certain heathen came before Shammai and said to him, ‘Make me a proselyte, on condition that you teach me the whole Torah while I stand on one foot.’ Thereupon he repulsed him with the builder’s cubit which was in his hand.12 When he went before Hillel, he said to him, ‘What is hateful to you, do not to your neighbour:13 that is the whole Torah, while the rest is the commentary thereof; go and learn it.’) Talmude Shabbath Babilônico 31a . Por sua importância, esse preceito foi referendado por Jesus. Está nos Evangelhos em Mateus, 7.12 e 22.39; em Marcos, 12.31, em Lucas, 6.31 e 10.27.
